Reclaimed Victorian BricksReclaimed Handmade Victorian Bricks

Our English bricks are typically old imperial size, hand-made and Victorian – ideal for the renovation and extension of properties from that era. The picture shows a local Ashburnham brick with their characteristic grey ends or headers sometimes known as blue ends or headers.

Reclaimed Handmade French Bricks

Our French bricks date from Napoleonic times and earlier. Smaller and thinner than a Victorian hand-made brick they match an English Tudor brick – which are very rare – and are ideal for older properties and often used in barn conversions and make beautiful ingle-nook fireplaces. The picture shows an award winning walled garden built from our hand-made French bricks.

Reclaimed Stock Bricks

A more affordable hand-made Victorian brick is a stock brick. Often referred to as a Victorian Stock Bricks or multi stock bricks because of their variation in colour, they give a more rustic look and typically have a speckled effect. Hand-made stock bricks can either be reclaimed from the face of a building (known as a face stock) or from the internal wall of a double skinned building, in which case they tend to be more crumbly. The picture in the gallery below shows a typical face stock brick.

Reclaimed Wire Cut Bricks

At the turn of the last century, the speed of production of bricks was improved by introducing the wire cut process. Wire was used to cut the clay to produce wire cut bricks sometimes known as cheese cuts. The picture shows a typical wire cut brick with our York stone coping used to cap the wall.

We also stock hand-made Victorian paving bricks, sometimes known as paviers. The picture shows our paving bricks used in a stable court yard.

We also stock pressed clays, yellow stock bricks and a new hand-made brick, which is a more affordable alternative to an original hand-made Victorian brick. Call us for any brick you need to match.
